CBC, Home Depot resume home rink contest

Broadcaster CBC Television and home improvement retailer The Home Depot have begun a contest tied to Hockey Night in Canada. The promotion began on Jan. 14 and will run until Feb. 25. During that time, viewers will be invited to construct and submit a photograph of a backyard hockey rink, along with a short story describing their use of it. The winner will receive a trip for four to the fourth game of the 2006 NHL Stanley Cup Final. The contest is being promoted with a four-week on-air campaign consisting of a 30-second commercial directing viewers to a website for details. Also, in-store materials with information on rink constructions will be distributed through Home Depot locations. "The partnership between CBC and The Home Depot is an extremely positive relationship," said Mark Wilson of Initiative Media, the advertising agency for The Home Depot. "The backyard rink contest is one example of these two organizations merging to bring something strategically significant while delivering real benefits to Canadian communities year after year." This is the third year the two companies have conducted this initiative.
