Ontario healthcare workers begin safety needle campaign
By Adnews Staff
A coalition of Ontario healthcare workers has begun an advertising campaign in that province intended to raise support for a new law to make safety needles mandatory in all workplaces where workers are exposed to blood-borne pathogens. The campaign is an initiative of the Ontario Nurses' Association, the Service Employees International Union and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. According to these organizations, the mandatory use of safety needles would prevent 33,000 injuries per year in Ontario. The campaign , which consists of print, radio and outdoor advertising, began on Nov. 14 and will run until Dec. 12. In addition, a website for the campaign has been constructed at <http://www.saferneedles.ca>.
