Addendum: Imperial Oil Cheer on Canada contest
By Adnews Staff
According to the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Imperial Oil of Calgary has agreed to modify its "Cheer On Canada" contest to eliminate the implied association between the company and the Olympic Games. "After working diligently over the past 24 hours, VANOC and Esso have reached agreement on modifications to the promotion so that it is no longer associated with the 2006 Olympic Winter Games and Canada's Olympic Team," said committee CEO John Furlong. "On behalf of Vancouver 2010 and our partners, I would like to salute Esso for doing the right thing for our athletes and for recognizing the investments that have been made in the 2010 Winter Games and Canada's Olympic team." Part of the prize package of the contest was a set of tickets to Canadian men's and women's hockey games at the Torino, Italy Winter Olympics next year. The committee's contention was that Imperial Oil had failed to obtain permission to use these tickets a promotional activity.
