Toronto Public Health begins healthy children campaign
By Adnews Staff
Toronto Public Health has begun a public education campaign intended to illustrate ways to raise healthy, active and safe children. The series of 15-second commercials will air on Toronto television station Citytv for one month. The ads promote physical activity, healthy eating habits and non-violent problem solving. These commercials will be supported with out-of-home ads on TTC bus shelters and in subway cars. The ads, which use the headline, "Your kids are listening," describe the importance of parent behaviour as an example for children's habits. In October, a new phase of the campaign called "Spanking hurts more than you think" will begin. These ads will use contrasting images such as a balloon and a pin or the sun and a cloud to illustrate the negative impact of hitting a child. In November the effort will shift to injury prevention with a campaign phase called "How hot is your tap water?" The campaign is being funded by the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services.
