THOMSON CLOSING B.C. DAILY

Toronto-based Thomson Corp. is closing its 105-year-old Vernon Daily News in British Columbia on June 22 because it isn't making any money. The paper has a circulation of 4,900. Thomson bought the Vernon paper in 1969, and it became a daily in 1973. Without the Vernon Daily, The Morning Star will become the city's dominant paper. It has a print run of 28,000 copies three days a week. The Morning Star is published by Cariboo Press of Victoria.
