CanWest wins U.K. radio licence

CanWest Global Communications of Winnipeg a received a 12-year licence to operate an FM radio station in the United Kingdom from it's broadcast regulator, the Office of Communications. The station, which will be called Original 106, will cover the Southampton, Portsmouth and Bournemouth region of southern England. The format will consist of album-led music aimed at listeners aged 40 to 59, plus news. The station is expected to be on the air sometime in 2006. According to the company, CanWest is the first non-U.K. broadcaster to receive a radio licence from Ofcom.
