Cellular telephone provider Telus Mobility of Toronto has launched a new service which will give customers access to live television programming on their phones. The service, called Telus Mobile TV, is being operated in association with MobiTV of Berkeley, CA. According to Telus, the service will be available to 90 percent of the Canadian population. For a flat monthly fee, subscribers to the service can watch unlimited programming from seven channels: CBC Newsworld, Fox News, G4 Tech TV, RDI, MeteoMedia, The Shopping Channel and The Weather Network. The company plans to add additional channels carrying business news, sports, entertainment and music in the near future. The programming is accessed through the Internet connection of eligible handsets. At the moment, only the Motorola V710 is capable of receiving these programs. "Telus Mobile TV puts real-time television programming directly into the hands of clients, whenever and wherever they might want to be entertained or informed," said Robert Blumenthal, the company's vice-president of products and services. "It's an example of supporting our clients' increasing desire for phones that serve as powerful mobile multimedia and entertainment tools."
