Liquor boards begin sober boating campaign
By Adnews Staff
Eleven Canadian liquor boards and the Lifesaving Society have begun a new campaign encouraging boaters not to drink while out on the water. The English and French poster campaign uses the copy, "Have fun in the sun, but don't drink 'til you're done." The posters will be displayed at liquor stores and marinas through the summer. The campaign is being coordinated by the Canadian Association of Liquor Jurisdictions, which will also conduct similar efforts aimed at all-terrain vehicle and snowmobile drivers this fall and winter. "The misuse of alcohol when operating off-road vehicles is becoming a concern in all areas of the country," said Don Lussier, chair of the association. "By joining together through a national campaign, liquor jurisdictions across Canada hope to raise public awareness of this issue. This joint national campaign reminds everyone that drinking and driving should never mix, whether you are on a roadway or enjoying off-road recreational activities."
