Montreal-based Digital Advertising Network has begun a promotion called the "Mobile Minutes $20,000 Text & Win Contest." The company operates a collection of video screens in the food courts of 66 Canadian shopping malls. The eight-week contest, which began on April 30, will take place at eight malls in the Greater Toronto Area, one week at each location. During the contest, mall customers can win prizes by answering trivia questions displayed on the screens with a cell phone text message. The prizes include $16,000 in mall gift certificates. The contest will be promoted with radio support from FLOW 93.5, tabletop tent cards, posters and ads on the video screens. Four promotional workers with a wrapped vehicle will be present at each location during the trivia sessions to raise interest and distribute prizes. "SMS is extremely popular with young Canadians and facilitating interactivity between DAN's video screens and the captive youth audience within the mall environment for this trivia initiative is the first of many text messaging services planned," said Dan Reitzik, president of the firm's subsidiary Digital Youth Network.
