Make Poverty History Campaign breaks Canadian ads
By Adnews Staff
The Vancouver-based Make Poverty History Campaign broke an ad campaign yesterday to promote its anti-poverty efforts in Canada. The television commercial features celebrities Bono, Sarah McLachlan, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Tom Hanks and Bob Geldof. The ad will air in prime time on CBC, CTV and Global Television. It has also been posted at the organization's website at <http://www.makepovertyhistory.ca>. Print ads featuring McLachlan will run in the Globe and Mail and the Vancouver Sun, among other newspapers. As part of its awareness initiative, the organization will conduct a series of "white band actions" through the rest of the year. The first of these will take place today in Vancouver, where St. Andrew's Wesley church will be wrapped with a white band. National campaigns such as this one are currently underway in 50 countries, according to the organization. The Make Poverty History Campaign is pressuring G8 nations to provide more aid to developing countries, modify their trade practices and cancel the debts of the poorest countries.
