Centre For Addiction and Mental Health readies campaign

The Toronto-based Centre For Addiction and Mental Health will begin an education campaign next week in which seven Ontario residents describe their experiences with mental illness and addiction. Called "Transforming Lives," the campaign will break with radio ads in the Toronto area on May 2, the start of Mental Health Week. Print advertising will begin the next day. Television public service announcements will be released later in the month. The campaign is intended to reduce the stigma associated with addiction and mental illness, and to increase awareness of the information and services available from the centre. The creative presents the personal stories of seven people, including Lieutenant Governor of Ontario James Bartleman and former Toronto Maple Leaf Ron Ellis. They discuss how they overcame problems with alcohol, crack cocaine and depression. The campaign was created by Ambrose Carr Linton Carroll of Toronto. Public relations are being handled by Maverick.
