CHUM Television reorganizes, shuffles management staff

Toronto-based CHUM Limited has reorganized its television division into three functional groups headed by Roma Khanna as senior vice-president of content, Peter Palframan as senior vice-president of operations and David Kirkwood as executive vice-president of sales and marketing. According to the company, the reorganization was done to accommodate the recently acquired Craig Media and full ownership of Learning and Skills Television of Alberta. The management changes are intended to result in more efficient content creation and marketing activities across the company's 12 local television channels, 21 specialty channels and related business units. Khanna was previously vice-president of CHUM Interactive. In her new position she will guide CHUM Television's domestic and international content creation, program acquisitions and distribution efforts. Palframan was previously vice-president of finance and administration. He is responsible for the business operation of CHUM's 33 television stations and related business units. Kirkwood continues in his existing position to handle sales and marketing for CHUM television services, plus integrated sales and marketing efforts involving other CHUM media. The reorganization includes several other staff changes. In the content group, Marcia Martin has been appointed vice-president of production. She was previously vice-president and general manager of Star!, FashionTelevisionChannel and SexTV, as well as vice-president of Production for CHUM's local television channels. Ellen Baine, currently vice-president of programming, will now also oversee program acquisitions, scheduling and programming staff for all CHUM television channels. David Johnson, director of creative services, will now lead a newly centralized on-air promotion and creative services unit for all stations. In the operations group, Paul Gratton has been appointed vice-president of entertainment specialty channels, responsible for Bravo!, Space, Drive-In Classics, Star!, Sex TV, FashionTelevisionChannel, BookTelevision, CourtTV Canada and TV Land. David Kines has been appointed vice-president of music and youth specialty channels, responsible for MuchMusic, MuchMoreMusic, MuchLOUD, MuchVibe, MuchMoreRetro, MTV Canada and MTV2. Nigel Fuller has been appointed regional vice-president for Ontario, responsible for Citytv Toronto, CP24, The New VR, The New RO, The New PL, The New WI and The New NX. Al Thorgeirson has been appointed regional vice-president for Alberta and Manitoba, responsible for A-Channel stations in Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg, CKX-TV Brandon, Canadian Learning Television and Access.
