Toronto-based Rogers Wireless is preparing to launch a new service called Rogers Mobile Television, in association with software company Idetic of Berkeley, CA. The subscription-based service will allow Rogers customers to watch live television programming on video-capable cell phones. The content will include news, sports and entertainment shows spread over eight channels, drawn from media outlets including MSNBC, CP24, NBC On-Line, Discovery, TLC, The Weather Channel, Meteo Media, NBC Mobile, Major League Baseball, Comedy Time, and ToonWorld. Rogers plans to add additional channels before the service debuts in the second quarter. The programs will be transmitted to a phone through the company's existing mobile Internet service.
