McDonald's readies campaign for fruit and walnut salad

Toronto-based McDonald's Restaurants of Canada is preparing a campaign to promote a new menu item called the Fruit 'n Walnut Salad. The salad will be sold nationally in participating restaurants from April 4 to Sept. 5. It contains apple slices, grapes, vanilla yogurt and candied walnuts. The marketing campaign will begin on May 16. A national 30-second television commercial in English and French will promote the chain's entire Saladsplus menu while introducing the new product. Two national 15-second commercials will be dedicated to the Fruit 'n Walnut Salad. Regional outdoor advertising, magazine ads and in-restaurant materials will also be used. Advertising for McDonald's is handled by Cossette. Public relations are handled by Weber Shandwick Worldwide.
