MICROSOFT BUYS SOFTWARE COMPANY

Microsoft Corp. of Redmond, Washington is buying Aha! Software Corp. of Mountain View, California. Aha! is a private company that makes pen-based programs for portable computers. The company is best known for its Inkwriter program, which allows users to write and send notes in their own handwriting. The program also has editing functions such as cut and paste. Inkwriter first appeared with Sony's Magic Link and Motorola's Envoy personal digital assistants. The software can be used for tasks such as filling out electronic inventory forms by hand. Aha! will be folded into Microsoft.
