BATON LOSES LESS MONEY
By Adnews Staff
Baton Broadcasting's ad revenues dropped during December and January in Ontario and Saskatchewan, but grew in February mainly because of the Grammy awards. For the three-month period ending Feb. 29, 1996, net air-time revenues fell 3% from the same period last year. The company had a second-quarter net loss of $1.6 million, compared with a loss of $5.8 million a year earlier when it reported a pre-tax re-organization charge of $7.9 million. For the first six months of the year net income was $5.2 million, up from $504,000 during 1995. Revenues dropped to $113.7 million from $132.4 million a year earlier. the broadcaster says it improved its operating margin by re-organizing and continuing to keep a lid on costs.
