VIACOM EXPECTED TO KEEP TTC AD CONTRACT
By Adnews Staff
A recommendation that Viacom Outdoor Canada retain the Toronto Transit Commission advertising contract was expected to be approved at a TTC meeting yesterday. At press time, the meeting had not yet concluded and the commission had not yet voted to approve the contract. The recommendation outlines a new seven-year deal valued at a minimum of $93 million. Viacom's current contract with the TTC will expire on Dec. 31. Titan Outdoor, Pattison Outdoor and Clear Channel Outdoor Canada also submitted proposals. Two new initiatives were included in Viacom's proposal: a digital information and entertainment network and a tunnel advertising system. The digital information network will consist of screens placed in subway cars and on subway platforms. The tunnel advertising system will involve images on the tunnel walls that will appear to move when viewed from a train. Polit tests of these initiatives were also recommended by the TTC evaluation committee.
