PALMER, CANWEST TO PRESENT GOOD CAUSE AWARD

A new competition will award a national public service campaign to a not-for-profit or registered charitable organization in Canada. The Good Cause Award competition was created by Frank Palmer, chairman and CEO of DDB Canada. The competition's principal sponsor is CanWest Global Communications, which is donation $1.5 million in airtime and newspaper space. Approximately 250 organizations have been identified are being contacted through direct mail to encourage submissions, which are due Aug. 13. The winner receives a creative television and newspaper PSA campaign developed by DDB Canada. The campaign will break spring 2005 and run until the end of the year on CanWest Global TV and in CanWest newspapers across Canada. Additional sponsors of the competition include Telus, which is donating $100,000 in cash and in-kind donations; Metropolitan Fine Printers, which is donating printing services; Tribal DDB, which developed the competition's <www.goodcauseaward.ca> Web site; and Karacters Design Group, which developed the Good Cause logo, brochure and stationary. From all the submissions received, a shortlist of five will be selected. The shortlisted organizations will deliver a presentation to the competition's selection panel on Sept. 8. The winner will be announced the following day.
