NIELSEN MEDIA RESEARCH AND BBM CANADA TO MERGE ELECTRONIC TELEVISION SYSTEM OPERATIONS

Nielsen Media Research of Markham, ON, and BBM Canada of Toronto intend to merge the parts of their operations that measure television audiences using electronic meters. According to the two organizations, the goal is to produce a single electronic measurement standard for the Canadian television industry. As part of the agreement a new joint venture company will be formed. Measurement will be offered nationally, in Ontario, and in the cities of Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary though Nielsen People Meters. Measurement in Quebec will be conducted through BBM Personal Portable Meters. The merger is still subject to the execution of final agreements between Nielsen and BBM as well as regulatory approval.
