ESSO INSTALLS AD SCREENS AT PUMPS
By Adnews Staff
Imperial Oil is preparing to install video screens at the gas pumps of some Esso stations. The screens, from Visual Satellite Technologies Canada, are 17" in size with stereo speakers. When a customer lifts a gas nozzle, the screen will begin to display a 2.5 minute loop of advertising, headlines and public service information. When idle, the screens will display a loop of in-store promotional information. The content will be updated twice a day. The system was tested for three months over the winter at five stations in the Greater Toronto Area. "Consumers told us that the screens and content, both video and audio, made pumping gas more interesting," said VST Canada vice-president of sales Darryl McDaniel. Imperial will begin a national roll-out of the system this month which is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
