IBM'S LOTUS TAKEOVER OK

The U.S. government has approved by default the takeover of software developer Lotus Corp. by International Business Machines Corp. for $3.5 billion(US). The government did not request additional information about the merger by the legal deadline, an indication that it would not challenge the deal. Lotus is best known for its Notes program. In Canada, advertising for Lotus is done by Doner Schur Peppler of Toronto, while IBM has Ogilvy & Mather worldwide. Lotus management gave its seal of approval to the deal less than two weeks ago.
