ADVERTISING STANDARDS CANADA RELEASES AD COMPLAINT REPORT

Advertising Standards Canada has released its 2003 Ad Compliant Report. The annual report contains information about consumer complaints submitted to the organization for review under the Consumer Complaint Procedure. In 2003, 1,133 complaints about 716 advertisements were received. Of those, 131 complaints for 57 advertisements were upheld under the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards. The category that attracted the most complaints (186) was retail advertising. The medium that attracted the most complaints (588) was television. Advertisers cited in the report include Future Shop, MDG Computers Canada, Staples Business Depot, Jetsgo, Sears Canada, Trans Canada Credit Corporation, Volkswagen Canada and Kia Canada.
