COREL WRAPS UP WORDPERFECT DEAL
By Adnews Staff
Ottawa-based Corel Corp. has finalized its purchase of WordPerfect and plans to launch its new version of the company's software in April. Corel bought WordPerfect from Novell Inc. of Provo, Utah in January for $185 million(US). In order to lure buyers of office suites away from Microsoft Office, the company has developed the Corel WordPerfect Suite. This bundles the WordPerfect word processing program with the Quattro Pro spreadsheet, Netscape Communications' Navigator Internet software and Starfish Software's Sidekick organizer. The Corel Office Professional Suite includes a database and group software. Print advertising for the new WordPerfect products began last week. It was created in-house. TV may be used in the future.
