FAMOUS PLAYERS, CINEPLEX ADOPT NEW STANDARDS FOR CINEMA ADVERTISING
By Adnews Staff
Theatre operators Famous Players and Cineplex Odeon have adopted new standards for sound levels in cinema advertising. Effective immediately, both companies will set a maximum average loudness of 82 decibels for all full motion commercials that run in their theatres. The move follows the release of a report called "White Paper on Sound Levels in Cinema Commercials" commissioned by Famous Players and Cineplex. The paper also recommended that sound guidelines be included in advertising contracts, that random in-theatre testing be conducted to ensure the guidelines are followed, and that the companies refuse to run any ad that does not comply with the recommended sound level. The white paper was produced by TOYBOX of Toronto, a supplier of cinema advertising.
