CANADIAN TIRE OPENS NEW CONCEPT STORES
By Adnews Staff
Canadian Tire opened the first four stores using a new format called "concept 20/20" on Friday. The stores are in Kitchener, Markham and Pembroke, ON and Prince George, BC. The Toronto-based retailer hopes to increase sales with the format. Space previously used for warehousing has been converted into retail space. Merchandise is divided into four categories: "Driving", "Playing", "Fixing" and "Living." A "Marketplace" area by the store entrance displays featured products and promotions. The new concept stores are being supported with radio advertising in the Greater Toronto Area, promotion at existing Canadian Tire locations, in-store materials and a flyer. The retailer plans to use the design in all new stores built in 2004, and to eventually bring the format to up to 90% of its existing stores.
