IDLING CAMPAIGN TARGETS ALBERTA DRIVERS
By Adnews Staff
A month-long awareness campaign has begun in Calgary and Edmonton to encourage drivers to reduce vehicle idling. The campaign, called "Alberta Reduce Idling," is an initiative of Climate Change Central, Natural Resources Canada and the Sierra Club of Canada - Prairie Chapter. The advertising includes temporary "Idle Free Zone" signs posted in various places and ads on bus backs. The creative asks drivers to turn off their engines when they are parked or stopped for more than 10 seconds. Promotional workers called "Idle Ambassadors" will visit schools and gas stations to tell drivers about the benefits of turning off their engines. The cities of Edmonton and Calgary, the Calgary Health Region, Alberta Environment and Alberta Transportation are also supporting the campaign with their own initiatives to reduce idling.
