AGRI-FOOD CANADA HOLDS APPLE-NAMING CONTEST

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has begun a contest to name a new apple variety developed at the organization's research facility in British Columbia. Canadians have been invited to name apple, which is medium-sized, sweet and has a yellow peel. Contestants can enter at <http://www.agr.gc.ca/malus>, by telephone or by mail. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 21. The contest is being promoted with postcards being distributed at events nationally, with materials for schools and libraries and with local activities. A judging panel will select the winning name, which will be announced on Oct. 2.
