BEST BUY, FUTURE SHOP PLAN TWO TOWERS PROMOTIONS

Consumer electronics retailers Best Buy and Future Shop are preparing to promote the video release of "The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers" with a number of in-store activities. Future Shop will hold events at three stores in Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver on Monday night. The activities will take place under large tents. These will include costume contests, appearances by characters from the movie and a screening of the film. At midnight the movie will go on sale. Future Shop will use local radio, television and print media outlets to promote its release events. Public relations from Strategic Objectives of Toronto are also being used. The 14 Best Buy stores in Canada will open at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday to sell the movie. Customers will have the chance to receive one of 12 Sharp DVD players or a Sharp Aquos LCD flat-panel TV in an instant-win contest. The first 100 people buy a copy of the DVD will receive an envelope containing a minimum prize of a $5 discount on a future DVD purchase. Customers can also enter a draw for a Sharp home theatre system. This contest will close on Sept. 7. Best Buy will promote its initiatives on local radio stations in its 14 markets. The retailer will also highlight its activities in its weekly flyer.
