MCDONALD'S READIES BEEF PROMOTION

McDonald's Restaurants of Canada will begin a national initiative in support of the Canadian cattle industry on Aug. 22. Customers that purchase a beef sandwich at a Canadian McDonald's restaurant will receive a coupon for a free sandwich. The coupon will expire on Sept. 30. The giveaway will be promoted with national bilingual television advertising, 30-second radio ads and in-restaurant materials beginning during the week of Aug. 18. The advertising was created by Cossette Communication-Marketing. Public relations are being handled by Weber Shandwick Worldwide. Last month McDonald's announced it would buy 100% of its beef from Canadian suppliers. Prior to that, 70% to 80% of the chain's beef supply was from Canada.
