NIKE READIES KING OF TORONTO COMPETITION

Nike Canada of Thornhill, ON will hold a one-on-one basketball tournament on July 12, the winner of which will be named "King of Toronto." The event is part of Nike's "Battlegrounds" series, which also includes events in a number of U.S. cities. Eight players will compete in the Toronto tournament for a prize of $10,000, a medallion, a one-year Nike shoe contract and the refurbishment of the winner's home court. The winner will also travel to New York to compete in the Nike Battlegrounds King of King finals on Aug. 9. An advertising campaign, created by Toronto-based Amoeba, is promoting the "King of Toronto" tournament. Posters bearing the images of the eight players have been placed in Footlocker stores, TTC transit shelters and community centres in the city. Public relations for the tournament are being handled by Thornley Fallis Communications of Toronto.
