ADVERTISING STANDARDS CANADA CHANGES CODE

Advertising Standards Canada announced changes to the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards at its annual meeting yesterday. Last year the organization's board of directors formed a group to seek to feedback from advertisers and agencies on the code. The changes include amendments to Clause 6 (comparative advertising), Clause 10 (safety) and Clause 14 (unacceptable depictions and portrayals). Interpretation guidelines will also be developed to supplement the code on an "as-needed basis." The changes will take effect on Sept. 1.
