FUTURE SHOP HIRES MASEV FOR CAR AUDIO CONTEST, PREPARES FATHER'S DAY PROMOTION

Consumer electronics retailer Future Shop of Burnaby, BC has hired MASEV Communicatios of Vancouver to execute its third annual Sound Pressure Level National Car Audio competition. MASEV received the assignment based on its past work for Future Shop on several DVD releases. MASEV will produce a series of events intended to promote Future Shop's car audio products and services. The competition began last weekend in Toronto. It will last until September. Events will take place at Future Shop locations in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna and Vancouver. Panel of judges will determine the loudest car stereos present in five categories. Eastern and western Canada regional winners will be selected. Last year Future Shop handled the contest in-house.
In related news, Future Shop and MGM Home Entertainment will hold a contest to promote the June 3 DVD release of the movie "Die Another Day." The contest, called "Make Dad's Day," will tie the movie to Father's Day. On June 3 the retailer will begin selling specially marked packages of the movie with contest details inside. The grand prize consists of a trip for two to a Bond destination and a collection of Future Shop merchandise. The contest is being promoted with in-store materials and public relations. It will also be described in the chain's Father's Day television, radio and print advertising, which will use a "Make Dad's Day" theme. The in-store and print advertising were created in-house. The media buying and broadcast creative were done by Toronto-based Doner Canada. Public relations for Future Shop are handled by Strategic Objectives, also of Toronto.
