CANWEST WINS LICENSE FOR KITCHENER FM STATION

The Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission has awarded CanWest Global Communications subsidiary Global Communications a broadcast license for a new FM radio station in Kitchener, ON. The station, called "The Beat," will broadcast on the 91.5 FM frequency. The station, aimed at young adults 18 to 34 years of age, will play dance and hip hop music. Leonard Asper, president and chief executive officer of CanWest, said winning the licence was another step towards the company's goal of developing a network of radio stations across Canada.
