AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN ADDRESSES CANADIANS

Toronto agency Axmith McIntyre Wicht has created a new radio ad for Amnesty International, the human rights organization based in Ottawa. The 30-second ad presents the president of the fictional country called the Republic of Rutakia. He thanks Canadians for helping him torture and imprison people in his country who express political or religious beliefs. "Without your silence, it would be difficult to violate my people's basic human rights," he says. The ad ends with the words, "Speak out for human rights. Join Amnesty International." The ad will be distributed to stations in Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver that have donated advertising space. A print and poster campaign has also been created, depicting the Amnesty International candle logo formed from a sea of chains. It will run in space donated by magazines, newspapers and outdoor media companies. According to Rosemary Oliver, resource development director for Amnesty International, "This campaign is part of a renewed mission to put human rights back on the radar."
