GEORGIAN COLLEGE SIGNS UP FOR NOKIA NEW U PROGRAM

Georgian College of Barrie, ON will be the first Canadian institution to implement a program from Nokia called "The New U." Nokia representatives will provide advertising students with an overview of the Nokia brand and a briefing on a specific product. Groups of students will them develop television advertisements for the product. Some of the finished ads will be displayed on the Nokia Web site, where they will be ranked by the public. Based on the online ranking, one winning ad will be chosen each semester. The program was introduced on a pilot basis at the University of Missouri in the fall 2002 and spring 2003 semesters. Two ads created have since been made into national spots for the Nokia 3650 camera. The ads ran in the U.S. in April. In 2003 program will be introduced at several U.S. institutions including the University of Texas, University of Colorado and Southern Methodist University.
