CRTC APPROVES FOUR NEW TORONTO RADIO STATIONS

The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission has awarded licenses for four new radio stations in the Greater Toronto Area. Canadian Multicultural Radio will operate an ethnic station at 101.3 FM. La Coopérative radiophonique de Toronto will launch a French-language station at 105.1 FM. San Lorenzo Latin American Community Centre won approval for a not-for-profit ethnic community station at 1610 AM. Sur Sagar Radio will operate a stand alone transitional digital radio service. The previous user of the 101.3 FM frequency, CHIN-AM, will broadcast via a re-transmitter at 91.9 FM. All of the new stations have up to two years to begin broadcasting.
