TORONTO HUMAN SOCIETY STARTS PUBLIC SERVICE CAMPAIGN

The Toronto Human Society will begin a public service campaign tomorrow that will focus on the care and protection of animals. The campaign, created pro bono Palmer Jarvis DDB of Toronto, will consist of guerrilla marketing and print advertising. It will begin with an event tomorrow at the Caban store on Queen Street West in Toronto. Various store items will be accompanied by a message about proper pet care. A chewed up slipper and robe with carry the message, "Find something for a teething puppy to chew on or he'll find it himself." A soiled rug will bear the message, "Being kept inside all day isn't good for your dog. Or you home." At the event, pet photographer Deborah Samuel will take digital photographs of customers' dogs with the purchase of one of her books, Dog and Pup. A print ad called "Puppy Love" is being distributed to local publications. The ad shows a dog magazine under the mattress of an empty dog basket. The copy reads, "Neuter your dog before he becomes sexually active." Amy White, director of communications for the Toronto Human Society, said, "By educating the public about proper animal care, we're hoping people will have a better understanding of the responsibilities involved with caring for a pet and help us prevent growing numbers at the shelter."
