SKINNY SNACKS COME TO CANADA
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based Hostess Frito-Lay brought its low and reduced-fat snacks to Canada this week. Baked Frito-Lay Potato Crisps, Baked Tostitos Tortilla Chips and Reduced Fat Ruffles Potato Chips are now on store shelves. So are two brands of low-fat chip dips, Ruffles French Onion and Frito-Lay Low Fat Sour Cream and Onion. Low-fat Tostito Salsa sauces complete the line. TV advertising starts next week for Baked Frito-Lay and Baked Tostitos. In a 30-second spot for Baked Frito-Lay, fishermen spot supermodels Vendela, Naomi Campbell and Kathy Ireland fishing and eating the chips. Initially the men are disturbed by the noise, but they soon learn to enjoy the snacks when the women toss them a bag of chips. In the second spot the women are playing poker, bantering about sports and eating chips. Both commercials have the tag line, "Tastes So Great You'll Want To Eat Like One Of The Guys!" There are also two spots for Baked Tostitos. In one, comedian Chris Elliott goes to an exclusive art exhibit that is transformed into a chip-eating crowd. The second spot follows Chris and his group of friends as they head to a football game. Although they end up not getting into the game because it's sold out they still throw a tail gate party. The ads were created by BBDO Worldwide of New York. Its Toronto office localized the ads and did the media buy. Sampling for all products will begin Feb. 19.
