The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has approved an application for a digital over-the-air licence. The application was submitted by Chum Television for its Toronto station Citytv. This will be the first high-definition television signal to emanate from a Canadian broadcaster. The free channel will provide digital sound and a widescreen picture. The station will begin broadcasting the signal in mid-February. The station will also be available to Rogers HD digital subscribers on Jan. 16.
