COCA-COLA RE-RUNS ANIMATED HOLIDAY COMMERCIAL
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Coca-Cola's holiday commercial from 2001 returned to Canadian television last week. The 30-second animated ad was created by McCann Erickson of New York, produced by Quebec animation studio Pascal Blais and adapted for Canada by MacLaren McCann of Toronto. The ad uses the Santa Claus image Haddon Sundblom created for Coca-Cola in 1931. In it, two children catch Santa Claus as he checks his list and drinks from a bottle of Coca-Cola that has been left out for him. Realizing he has been caught, Santa stretches out his arms to hug the children. The ad will run in English and French through the holiday season. This year Sundblom's Santa Claus images will also appear on most packaging for Coca-Cola Classic soft drinks, according to Sandra Shatilla, the company's national promotions and innovation manager.
