STOCKHOUSE.CA BANS POP-UP ADVERTISING

Stockgroup Information Systems Inc. of Vancouver has banned the use of pop-up advertising on its investor Web site StockHouse.ca. According to the company, user surveys showed that pop-up advertising is the most annoying aspect of surfing the Internet. "We're listening to our users," said Marcus New, chief executive officer of Stockgroup. "They clearly find these ads annoying, and we don't want unhappy readers." The ban will apply to all sites operated by StockHouse, including StockHouse.com in the U.S., StockHouse.au in Australia and smallcapcenter.com. Stockgroup said that after meeting its existing contractual obligations it will only use pop-up windows for research surveys and in-house communication.
