CRTC AWARDS 11 LICENSES

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission awarded licenses for 11 new channels on Wednesday. Rogers Broadcasting's applications for The Fishing Network, The Canadian Science Channel, The Baseball Channel and a music video specialty station called Big Pop TV were approved, as were applications for four stations aimed at Tamil Canadians: Kallapami Tamil TV, NewsInternational, MovieWorld and Music, Music, Music. Applications for an English-language station called All Points Bulletin and a French-language station called Avis de Recherche, both aimed at Canadian law enforcement agencies, and an application by the Canadian Arabic Television Network were also approved by the CRTC. All 11 licences will expire on Aug. 31, 2009.
