Jean Mongeau, publisher and general manager of the Quebec daily Metro, is leaving the newspaper. A statement announcing Mongeau's departure said Metro's board of directors and Mongeau no longer agreed on the strategic direction of the paper and mutually agreed to part ways. He joined the daily newspaper a year ago. Transcontinental Media's vice-president of strategic development Jocelyn Poirier will be the interim publisher. Transcontinental Media owns Metro in partnership with Metro International S.A. and Gesca Ltd. Jean Roy has recently been hired as assistant publisher of Metro. Roy is responsible for all of the newspaper's operations except sales. Previously Roy was information director at Les Affaires. Also, Stephane Gagne has joined Metro as sales director. For the past year Gagne has been responsible for the development of Metro International.
