SEARS INTRODUCES ELECTRONIC GIFT CARDS

Toronto-based Sears Canada has replaced its paper gift certificates with electronic gift cards. The credit card-sized gift cards can be purchased in denominations between $10 and $500 at the company's 125 department stores, 37 furniture and appliances stores, 134 dealer stores and 17 outlet locations in Canada. The cards can also be purchased online at <http://www.sears.ca>. They are valid for two years from the time of purchase and can be used to pay for merchandise and most of the retailer's services. The light blue cards bear a ribbon and bow design, created in-house, the words "Sears Gift Card" and the company logo. The introduction of the cards will initially be promoted with in-store signage, also created in-house.
