THOMSON MERGES TWO DAILIES
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Thomson Corp. is merging its two dailies in Thunder Bay, Ont. into a single morning edition this spring. The Chronicle-Journal evening paper and The Times-News morning edition will be turned into a single morning daily called The Chronicle-Journal. The evening Chronicle-Journal has a circulation of 29,000 in the city's metropolitan area. The Times-News covers a larger geographic area but only has a circulation of 8,000. The merger of the Thunder Bay dailies leaves Saint John and Halifax as the only Canadian cities with sister morning and evening papers.
