ALBERTA WCB BEGINS HEADS UP AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

A province-wide advertising campaign called "Heads Up" broke yesterday in Alberta. The annual campaign is by the Workers' Compensation Board - Alberta, the Alberta Construction Safety Association, the Manufacturers' Health & Safety Association, Alberta Human Resources & Employment and the Alberta Hotel Safety Association. The $332,500 campaign aims to reduce injury rates among new workers. It consists of three 30-second radio spots and a set of three posters displayed at worksites and in the washrooms of bars and restaurants in the province. Two banner ads in the Edmonton and Calgary Sun daily newspapers and ads in a number of employer magazines are also in use. The creative depicts common injuries suffered in the workplace, such as a broken arm or leg, and displays the copy "Spot the New Guy." The campaign is aimed at males 18 to 34 years of age. The advertising, which will run until the end of June, was created by Palmer Jarvis DDB in Edmonton.
