TRICON GLOBAL TO ACQUIRE LONG JOHN SILVER'S AND A&W, TO CHANGE NAME TO YUM! BRANDS

Tricon Global Restaurants Inc. of Louisville, KY is acquiring Yorkshire Global Restaurants of Lexington, KY for US$320 million. Tricon's chains include KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. Yorkshire is the parent company of Long John Silver's and A&W All American Food Restaurants. Tricon and Yorkshire entered into a licensing agreement in 2000 for several multibranding combinations. Since then 83 KFC/A&W locations, six KFC/Long John Silver's locations and three Taco Bell/Long John Silver's locations have opened. Tricon will change its corporate name to Yum! Brands, Inc. to better reflect its portfolio of brands, according to the company. Vancouver-based A&W Food Services of Canada Inc. is not affected by the acquisition.
