GM AD ASKS WHAT IF

General Motors of Canada, based in Oshawa, ON, poses the question "What If?" in a new corporate television commercial breaking tomorrow. The 60-second black and white ad was created by MacLaren McCann. It opens on a car that has crashed into a pole. A voiceover says, "What if GM hadn't invented the airbag?" The car crash is shown in reverse. The voiceover says, "What if GM hadn't invented the side impact beam or safety glass or the rollover test or the collapsible steering column? What if GM hadn't invented the concrete highway divider or for that matter the crash test dummy? Would you still feel safe getting into a car?" The ad ends with the names of various GM car models flashing on the screen and the copy, "As the world's largest automobile maker we're not only committed to improving our cars, we're committed to improving all cars." The ad will run nationally during the Olympic Winter Games.
