ALIMENTATION COUCHE-TARD FURTHERS U.S. EXPANSION

Convenience store retailer Alimentation Couche-Tard, based in Laval, PQ, has acquired a chain of six stores from BP Amoco. Financial details were not being disclosed. The stores, which also sell gasoline, are located in Lafayette, IN. According to the company, it will take possession of the stores early next year. Alain Bouchard, chairman and chief executive officer of Alimentation Couche-Tard, said the company will continue to look for opportunities to increase its presence in this market, where it intends to double its network in the next two or three years. The acquisition brings the number of Couche-Tard stores in the U.S. to 227, most operating under the Bigfoot name. Overall Alimentation Couche-Tard operates about 1,900 convenience stores in Canada and the midwestern United States.
