APPLE AIRS CONCERTS

Concerts have come to computers. On New Year's Eve, U.S.-based Apple Computer launched its interactive on-line entertainment service called Apple QuickTime Live. The World Wide Web site <http://live.apple.com> will be airing live entertainment, including concerts from around the world, complete with sight and sound. Concert-goers can have their pictures broadcast on the Internet while they express their opinions of shows and performers. Fans around the world can chat with people at the event. On New Year's Eve the computer maker aired "Bill Graham Presents San Francisco New Year's Eve", an event which featured bands such as Santana and the Gin Blossoms. Apple uses a portable multimedia studio to cover live events for the Internet. These are recorded so people who could not make it to a concert can call it up later from an archive file.

The site also uses QuickTime VR, Apple's technology which creates "virtual" experiences. Advertisers such as BMW of North America are using this technology on their own home pages. At BMW's site <http://www.bmwusa.com>, the car company is previewing its Z3 Roadster, featured in the James Bond movie Goldeneye. Car fanciers using QuickTime VR can spin the vehicle on a pedestal while checking out the engine and interior details with a zoom feature.
